New Extension

Dear Parents/Carers

We are writing to you with some good news. After several years of hard work the committee is pleased to announce that on Saturday the 15th of October work will begin on extending the current facilities at Mês Bach. We have been awarded a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government and have received planning permission and an extension to our lease from Ceredigion County Council.

The extension will be built at the back of the current building across our playground. The extension will contain and office, staff room, staff toilet, storage and the main room for 4 to 11 year old children. The new facility will give us the ability to provide year round childcare for children aged 2 through 11. This will take the form of year round care for 2 to 4 year olds from 8:30am to 6pm, year round after school club and year round holiday club from 8:30am to 6pm. A new entrance will be built giving secure access to the facility that will be wheelchair and pushchair accessible.

Whilst this is very exciting we understand that you will be concerned over our ability to continue to provide our usual service and to keep the children safe whilst building work is going on. We feel that we will be in a position to provide our usual services, nursery, after schoo and holiday club with no interruption. The builders and the staff and committee of Mês Bach have the safety and welfare of the children as their highest priority. The builders are used to working in school premises and strict health and safety policies will be in place. The nature of the extension and the building techniques that will be used mean that the current building will only need to be accessed by the builders infrequently. This will be done at weekends and other periods when the children are not at Mês Bach.

We will however not open at Christmas for holiday club. We have occasionally in the past opened for a few days at Christmas but the late return to school, 9th January 2012, will give the builders a window in which to get additional work done without disrupting our service. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope you will agree that it is a small price to pay for the improved service and facilities we will be able to offer in future. It is expected that we will be able to open the extension in late February of 2012. Let's hope that the weather cooperates with our timetable!

We are very excited over this development and hope that you will likewise be excited to see the new extension. No doubt the building work will become of great interest to our younger children, so please expect pictures of diggers and even builders to be coming home with your youngsters!

In the meantime please feel free to approach the committee or staff if you have any concerns or questions. We will endeavour to have a copy of the plans available in the foyet at Mês Bach for you to see. Please bear with us through any disruptions or problems that may arise but equally please be assured that we will do everything we can to make sure you notice no difference to the childcare provision you currently enjoy.
